Sep 12 2015 Be a Rolemodel, Kids are Always Watching!
Being a Rolemodel
Is it possible to be a rolemodel? I feel we mess up so very much, so much of the time. When I think about the cycle of craziness we’ve been through with our health and fitness goals it makes me a little loco. After all these years together we have definitely had some good and bad moments. Our two children have now seen a lot of it!
My husband, Matt, really made a change and really stepped up as a rolemodel for our family in 2012. He started with P90X. He was super focused….unfortunately while I was pregnant! ? (He lost 65 pounds to be exact). I’d be focused and he’d be too busy with work..the list goes on. It is for sure easier to do it together but if for some reason your guy isn’t on the same page, it’s your job to be the rolemodel.
I promise if you stick to it and stay true to your goals, your kids will follow you. They will see your better moods. Your energy levels increase. You sleeping like a baby. They will see you being consistent. They will see the discipline, the hardwork, the blood, sweat and tears. They are always watching, so you are by default, their rolemodel…whether you like it or not.
Our kids love to run, try to do push ups, do yoga moves better than me half the time! They are my inspiration, yet we have to take that mantle and be their inspiration! It is all about loving them and leading them in being what we want them to become! We need to expect the best for them. Allow them to dream whatever they want and help them achieve those dreams, no matter how crazy they seem. Giving them confidence in everything, allowing them the freedom to take flight. But they must see the practice, the truth it takes day to day to make those dreams come true. We must be their rolemodel, making an effort to be the best for them.
Be that rolemodel for what you want to see in them. Plus, if we do the grocery shopping, then we get to choose the menu! They will appreciate as they grow older and start understanding the importance of fitness and nutrition!?

Sep 10 2015 Makeup Concealer Tips from a Makeup Artist!
Makeup Concealer Tips!
Here is the down low on my makeup concealer tips. I take it on the inside corner by the bridge of the nose (we always need brightness there) and then make sure to touch the outside corner. We don’t really have darkness all the way under the eye so I only use it where there is discoloration. That way extra product is not sitting in my smile lines. On the lookout for a new under eye concealer though. Was using Laura Mercier. Thinking Nars is next! Oh and Sephora is the place to go to pick these up!
Now time to check in my challenge groups and see what these fit mamas are up to! Thanks for checking out my makeup concealer tips, that will teach you how to be beautiful in covering up those puffy eyes!

Sep 07 2015 Getting the right Nutrition with Shakeology!
Nutrition with Shakeology
This mama does not have time to worry about getting a ton of veggies in as I run the kids around all day. I also don’t have time to get sick. Since we’ve been drinking this yummy goodness for three years straight, our household has been way healthier. Sure we get sick but it lasts 2 days not 5-6. Shakeology has been a godsend. It really has had a major impact. Some the other things we have noticed is our hair growing faster, nails growing quicker and stronger, better sleep and much more regular bowel movements! Yep, I said it.
I believe that food can act like poison to our bodies or it can heal and fuel them. I’m just passionate about sharing what I love and what has maintained our weight. Shakeology is something we have everyday. My husband, my kids and myself. If we do get sick, we usually have it twice a day. It is a non-negotiable in our household and a great way to get 70+ superfoods. It also is a meal replacement. I actually have it for breakfast most the time and it works great!
No more yo-yoing. No more fad diets. Just simple nutrients. Wish I would have known about it sooner. #payitforward #healthfirst #fivebucksaday #usedtospendmoreonTacobell

Sep 05 2015 A Simple and Quick way to Prepare Roasted Asparagus!
Roasted Asparagus Tip!
Roasted Asparagus is one of our favorite veggies. If I don’t watch my plate, my daughter will sneak extra for herself! My husband wants to eat his portion as well as everyone else’s and our son eats it right away….it is magical!
I break off the hard ends, drizzle a little avocado oil on them and sprinkle Trader Joe’s garlic salt. I stick them right on the top rack of the oven and broil at 500 for about 5 minutes. You have to watch them. I heard it said once, “You don’t actually cook asparagus-you just threaten to cook it.” ? It really is the most simple meal. We have roasted asparagus at least once a week, preferably two to three times per week.
There are some great vitamins in roasted asparagus, and if the kids like it, I’ll take it! It is an excellent source of all kinds of vitamins and minerals. I could try to explain them all to you, but I would rather have you hear it from the Nutritionist, Cheryl Forberg RD. She is a New York Times best-selling author. She is also the nutritionist for The Biggest Loser. In an article “5 Powerful Health Benefits of Asparagus You Probably Didn’t Know”, she gives us a full breakdown of how great asparagus really is for us!
- It’s loaded with nutrients: Asparagus is a very good source of fiber, folate, vitamins A, C, E and K, as well as chromium. Chromium is a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells.
- This herbaceous plant, along with avocado, kale and Brussels sprouts, is a particularly rich source of glutathione. This is a detoxifying compound that helps break down carcinogens and other harmful compounds like free radicals. This is why eating asparagus may help protect against and fight certain forms of cancer, such as bone, breast, colon, larynx and lung cancers.
- Asparagus is packed with antioxidants, ranking among the top fruits and vegetables for its ability to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. This, according to preliminary research, may help slow the aging process.
- Another anti-aging property of this delicious spring veggie is that it may help our brains fight cognitive decline. Like leafy greens, asparagus delivers folate, which works with vitamin B12, found in fish, poultry, meat and dairy, to help prevent cognitive impairment. In a study from Tufts University, older adults with healthy levels of folate and B12 performed better on a test of response speed and mental flexibility. (If you’re 50-plus, be sure you’re getting enough B12: your ability to absorb it decreases with age.)
- One more benefit of asparagus: It contains high levels of the amino acid asparagine, which serves as a natural diuretic, and increased urination not only releases fluid but helps rid the body of excess salts. This is especially beneficial for people who suffer from edema (an accumulation of fluids in the body’s tissues). It is also for those who have high blood pressure or other heart-related diseases.
So there you have it! If you weren’t eating roasted asparagus, or having your kids eat it, you now know what you’re missing. You now know how amazing it is for our bodies! So go have some amazing roasted asparagus. Put something in your body that will change you forever. Become more healthy. Roasted asparagus fit perfect in a green container if you are on the 21 Day Fix!

Sep 04 2015 Healthy Starbucks? Here’s how!!
Healthy Starbucks Drink
I have officially broken up with my 1/2 pump white mocha americano with whip. To even think that I could have a healthy Starbucks drink….is crazy! Who knew 2 inches of steamed coconut milk, 1 pack of honey and some cinnamon would be so dang tasty. A whole new level in Starbucks nutrition! 😉
Upward and onward with making small but healthier changes all the time. Are you kidding me? Having a healthy Starbucks coffee is a dream come true! And remember, having that whip everyday does add up. It is compounding interest. It doesn’t stop and it keeps going and going. This is what has been so hard for me, with all my sugar
My prior overweight, binge eating, Taco Bell loving, candy addict self would hardly believe this is the new me.

Aug 31 2015 Sugar Detox Day 1!! Let the Fun Begin!!
Sugar Detox Day 1
Day one of my sugar detox, green tea and honey instead of coffee, dates as my candy, and Shakeology as my treat. My willpower is in full effect this week. This is not even a bit easy for me. I love eating junk. A lot of us do! I know I’m not the only one. The thing is, we are what we eat…. and that sucks. I used to be able to eat anything and the scale would stay the same, my pants would fit just fine. Now, I feel like I have to stay on point to keep from gaining those extra pounds or barely fitting in my jeans!
Cheese, tortilla chips, peanut m&m’s and wine is what gave me this bloat ?
Dreams of skinny jeans and sweaters is what’s gonna take this bloat away.
Sometimes you just have to say “NO” for a bit. That’s what I tell myself as I struggle to stay strong. I’m also excited to sleep better and wake up with more energy. Wish me and the girls in my group luck with our sugar detox. We are going to keep accountable and really push through. You’ll have to join us if we do this again next month. #powerinnumbers #girlpower

Aug 28 2015 Gluten-Free Lunch, easy with the 21 Day Fix Extreme!
Gluten-Free Lunch Meal Prep, Easy and Quick
This is a gluten-free lunch, (cause I’m super gluten intolerant), that I think I’ve decided is my favorite food prep combo. It is simple, healthy and is balanced in every way. It fills me up perfectly and gives me energy for long lengths of time. I love it. Do you have a “go-to” meal that is balanced? This one is also easy to make in bulk. I can make enough to last a week and none of these items go bad super quickly, so it works out wonderfully. Having it placed in my handy-dandy little food prep containers, it is a pretty easy scenario.
- Wild salmon {I buy the individually wrapped pieces at Costco}
- Green Beans
- Roasted Sweet Potatoes
- *Cooked brown rice, grilled chicken and steamed broccoli is a close second.
Finding variation and little add-ons is so paramount to enjoying healthy food. I don’t believe that I have to enjoy every bite I eat, all the time, sometimes I need to eat to get the right nutrients, but this mindset has come over time. It has come from seeing what “always” enjoying food does to my body. I really love this one though, it really is tasty and great for me. Have you ever tried the garlic aioli mustard from Trader Joe’s? It is has no dairy and is actually one of the most amazing dipping sauces and a free food on the 21 Day Fix Extreme!!
If you’re not familiar with 21 Day Fix Extreme, I need to tell you how amazing this program is. It is 30 minute workouts, you do at home, with little to no equipment needed. It is intense, fun, challenging and comes with containers for meal prep as well. It is one of my favorite programs and is perfect as a quick and hardcore 3 week, (get ready for an event) workout. I know many of my clients do it multiple times in a row and have had great success.
Thanks for taking the time to read. Please ask questions below, I love engaging and helping others with their health. Gluten is no joke, so make sure you test to see if you have an allergy to it. This gluten-free lunch, really does the trick.

Aug 23 2015 Pesto Alfredo Chicken Gluten-Free Recipe!
Our GO TO Gluten-Free Recipe
We call it “green noodles” a most delicious gluten-free recipe. If you want to have something yummy and easy for dinner tonight, this is the ticket! My kids love it like candy, my husband always wants more and I truly enjoy it as well! I have been making this menu item for the last few years. I find it difficult at times, to find the right gluten-free recipe that the entire family enjoys!
Pesto Sauce:
You combine-
-The entire basil plant. Leaves rinsed and dried.
-1/4 cup olive oil
-3 garlic cloves or maybe just the whole clove ?
-2 Tbsp pine nuts
-salt and pepperFood process for a 30 seconds and then add either the nutritional yeast or Parma. Either way is good.
Cook up these incredible #glutenfree noodles and toss it all together. Top with extra pine nuts and thin-sliced broiled chicken and serve. Watch your kids eyes light up, as they enjoy this delectable dinner entree! I have never had one of them complain or not eat everything put in front of them. I usually pair this some sort of vegetable, usually broccoli or asparagus.
Budget tip: if you have a Trader Joe’s near you, this plant is only $2.99 and for a small pack of basil at another store it’s usually 3-4.99… I buy two at a time because fresh basil is one of the best ingredients for so many dishes. I’ll be posting another recipe soon that has the tasty leaves in it!

Aug 20 2015 Makeup Ideas – Primer and Foundation!
My Personal Makeup Ideas
When looking for makeup ideas, do you know that feeling when you have finally found the perfect combo? I do!! For years I have been using the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer. She makes a couple different kinds but I love the original. It keeps my makeup on way longer AND keeps my skin looking super smooth throughout the day. Having fairly oily skin, this is perfect for me. I am always looking for new makeup ideas.
There are some really great silicone based brands but Laura Mercier uses aloe and water and for some reason, it’s perfect! My skin loves it…. and I have some tough skin. Even in my thirties, I still have breakouts. I mean, I am an esthetician, a makeup artist and I still fight acne!! This product is the best by far, so try it out! With that being said, I am always on the lookout for new product. Even though I am loyal to Laura Mercier, I know other people have had great success while using other types, but this is my makeup idea!
Thennnnn, a friend told me about the Make Up Forever foundation. I mainly bought it because she told me Kim Kardashian uses it ☺heehee, but really- it’s amazing. I won’t lie, I love Kim Kardashian makeup ideas and makeup tips! I get my primer at Nordstrom and the foundation at Sephora. I love both places…..I would even go as far to say, they are a woman’s best friend!
P.S. If you spend $50 at Sephora, you get a free makeup lesson. Book an appointment before you go in and try some new makeup ideas while you’re there. I’m due for another lesson, too.
You’ll have to let me know if you try them!! Share some of your makeup ideas!!

Aug 19 2015 Home Remedies for Acne! Coconut Oil and Melaleuca.
Home Remedies for Acne
I am always looking for new home remedies for acne. I have dealt with acne my entire life. It is one of the most annoying things that is a continual battle. To those of you that deal with it as well, you can relate.
This magical combo had been helping me this past week. Melaleuca essential oil and organic extra virgin coconut oil did the trick! I had a funny sore on the edge of my nose that would not heal. I did a little “googling” and after two applications and some vitamin C pill-popping, it’s almost gone! I have found that Google has almost all the answers to everything in the entire world! Then if I need to see it in video form, I go to You Tube!
As a family we try to steer clear of antibiotics as much as possible. We’ve been known to swallow garlic cloves and goofy stuff like that. I swear it works though! 😉 My husband will literally take three cloves, peel them, cut them up into small pill sized cubes, throw them in his mouth and then swallow them with a glass of water!! Our at home gym smells a little garlicky from time to time!!
Now that this bottle of coconut oil is dedicated to skin treatments, I think I will start using it as a body moisturizer (especially on my feet) after the shower. I’ve heard it’s anti fungal, too! Again, my husband only uses coconut oil as lotion for his skin. He doesn’t do well with most lotions, so this is an amazing alternative, that is totally good for you!
Man, now to find more ways to use it!!
I love learning new ideas. Any fun combos you’ve tried and loved, let me know any home remedies for acne?
