  • Beachbody International is happening!!

I wasn’t sure when this day would come but it’s quickly approaching!!! The Beachbody nutrition, fitness and Coaching opportunity is going international! I have NO idea where we are headed yet, all that we have been told by corporate is that we are going to be opening in a new market later this year and I am PUMPED. If you want to be the first to know when we hear where we are headed, be sure to fill out the form on this page!

    So what does this mean?

I get a lot of requests from people outside of Canada and the U.S. who want to join our Coaching team and there is not much I can do.

I even get people who have been doing Beachbody Programs for years, they have been getting amazing results and even helping other people through their own weight loss journey’s, but they cannot take the next step and Coach because of where they live. Soon this will change for some of you. We will enter one new market this year and in my opinion this means that we will continue expanding into even more markets soon. I am so excited to make TEAM SHINE a worldwide team. Three years ago I made it my mission to help empower as many people as I can, to take action on their health and fitness and get focused on living their best life built on a foundation of health and fitness.

  • Is Your Food Plate Color Making You Put On Weight?

    Food Plate Color

Food Plate Color seems like a ridiculous notion, right?  Did you just eat a large lunch? Did you eat it off that bright red food plate you love using for everyday meals? Did the small portion of food you served yourself look so yummy, that you had to have a second helping? OMG! You just failed your diet resolution – and the culprit wasn’t even your lack of willpower!

It was that red food plate color. No, really, it could well be the reason why your compulsion to binge got the better of you. And you overate without even realizing it.

But the good news is this: once you know the secret of appetite-suppressing colors, you won’t be tempted in quite the same way again. You’ll keep the hunger-inducing red/green/turquoise plates and bowls for other occasions, and eat your daily meals off crockery that do not encourage a hearty appetite.

If you’re aware of color therapy, you know that colors have a strong, subconscious impact on our emotions and feelings. In the same way, colors can also tempt us or repel us from the idea of food. So, here’s a list of colors you should keep in mind when you’re shopping for everyday crockery. Maybe, you can even buy a single set of plates and bowls in any of these colors if you’re the only one dieting in the family.

BLUE: IT IS COLD AND UNAPPETIZING

Blue has an overall calming effect on our moods, and by that same token, it `cools’ our reckless urge to overeat. In a study conducted with 3 sets of participants served their meals in blue, red and yellow rooms, the ones in the Blue-food-plate-colorblue room consumed 33% less food than in the other two.

You may have noticed some stores carry refrigerators with blue lights inside to reduce the compulsion to snack. Color therapists often suggest painting a kitchen in blue if a family is dealing with weight issues. But a much easier way to involve this color with your food habits is by using blue food plates.

Aesthetically, blue looks gorgeous on dishes, platters and bowls, and its appetite-suppressing qualities can be your own little secret…

PURPLE: IT IS NOT A ‘FOODIE’ COLOR

Purple is a strong, spiritual color that feeds the imagination and provokes high thinking. But it rarely occurs in the physical plane or in natural foods. Besides eggplants, purple cabbage and some grapes, there aren’t many vegetables and fruits that are purple.

Therefore, purple is not a shade our subconscious generally associates with tastiness, and our response to food served on purple plates lack that extra eagerness to satisfy a physical desire such as overeating.

    GRAY: SUGGESTS OPPOSITE OF FRESHNESS

When was the last time you said: “I’m really craving something deliciously gray to eat”? Possibly, never. Our general perception is that foodstuff turn gray when they lose their freshness.

The color, though neutral in its psychological properties, has a dampening effect on all other colors around it.

With none of the juiciness of green or the brightness of red/orange, all gray does is kill appetite and take the vibes of excitement out of eating.

Which is great news for weight watchers!

BLACK: ASSOCIATES WITH ROT AND DECAY food plate Color

Black is a color we subliminally associate with rot. When foodstuff is not merely past its sell-by date (that would be gray) but when the actual process of decomposition has set in, we expect things in nature turn a morbid black.

Serving food on black plates is pleasing to the eye, and therefore it’s great for entertaining etc., but the color will not do much to encourage our appetite if used on plates we eat off everyday.

The heaviness of black will absorb all the energy coming towards you, and that includes sensations of tastefulness and corresponding hunger as well.

    BROWN: BLUNTs FOOD CRAVINGS

This is a surprising one because you’d expect brown – the color of fresh baked bread, steaks, chocolate etc. – to increase our desire to eat. But not so, say researchers, when the color is used as a backdrop for food to be served in.

The lack of energy in this dark, sluggish shade slows down the pace of eating, which gives the brain enough time to transmit sensations of fullness and therefore curb overeating.

In conclusion, food plate color can contribute to a lot of potential goods and bads in our psyche while eating.  So, think about these little extras that could be contributing to you having those cravings!!  Be careful and choose wisely!

It’s 6 weeks into 2017 and I’m curious…how are YOU doing with your goals?  Do you feel like you may need a fresh start in February? Me, too!!!  Our family was sick for most of January.  But sick or not, if you are anything like the “old” me, this is about the time I would start to fall off the wagon.  I would begin falling back into my late night snacking habits or forget my vision of what I was really setting out to do.  Here’s what’s so GREAT about this year, we don’t have to go back to our old ways.  There’s a new way of thinking and it is not the “quick fix” mentality.  It’s a long-term mindset.

  • New Year STRONG with Core De Force

Core De Force Meal Plan & Week 4 Update

Core De Force Week 4 Meal Plan is going down today.  Failing to plan is like planning to fail.  When I first heard that phrase I thought it was crazy.  Like seriously…. who plans out there food every week?  I don’t have time for that and seriously, who actually eats what they plan out?  That was my thinking 4 years ago, and I quickly realized after failing over and over at my nutrition that there was truth to meal planning and that I needed to embrace it.  Do I always eat exactly what is on the plan??  NOT AT ALL! But at least I have a plan, I have food in the house and I am empowered and set up for success.  So it’s Sunday and I call this my planning day.  I am sitting here with the Core De Force nutrition guide, my blank meal plan template I created on a spreadsheet, and my grocery list so that I can get my game plan together for the 4th week of Core De Force.

After 4 years of clean eating and exercising I have found my perfect combination.  I have done everything from the The South Beach Diet, The Fat Flush Diet, Eat Right For your Blood Type Diet, 21 Day Fix, Fix Extreme, 3 day refresh (<<btw, you would love this one) and following a Gluten-free diet.  I have found that my body personally responds to food very differently.  I get bloated with dairy and grains, I get mentally foggy and almost an instant headache with refined sugars.  If I eat paleo, stay away from dairy, gluten, and sugars that are artificial I feel my best.  No bloating, no mood swings, no headaches and improved muscle definition and tone.

So here is my “ideal” lifestyle ( even though I love raw cheddar, brie and Elleno’s Greek Yogurt)

    • Dairy free
    • Gluten Free
    • No artificial sugars at all
    • No legumes
    • Paleo lifestyle

I can share with you the difference is for sure in the results too:

I just don’t have those crazy crashes in my energy level like I did before.  I am not sluggish, I don’t have headaches unless my alignment is out of place, my skin is clearer and I’m just healthier and happier all around.

core de force, mom blog, healthy mom, gluten-free mom,

[June: Pre-workouts]                                                                            [November: After Core De Force]

The picture on the far left is from June when I was able to start working out again post surgeries.  You can search my blog for details on that fiasco.  The one on the far right is after completing 21 Day Fix Extreme, 8 weeks of Hammer and Chisel and 3 weeks of Core De Force.  I can really see my definition showing up.  I know I’m already fit but I feel healthy, powerful and STRONG which is really what I’m after.  Plus I really love that Core De Force is so focused on your core and that you do not need any weights at all.  It is just the perfect Hashtag Girlboss workout.  I wear my weighted gloves and I can do it in my own home.  No one cares how my hair looks.  Half the time I am grunting and punching and looking completely ridiculous.

*Week 4 Core De Force & Paleo/Whole30 eating*

So let’s also talk nutrition.  I am following the Core De Force meal plan. I also really do modify and I don’t always get in the yellows.  I eat maybe 1 per day and I eat more good fats because I follow the Paleo lifestyle.  That is what my body responds to the best. Here is my week 4 meal plan:

    core de force mom

I have snacks typically in the afternoon between lunch and dinner and then after dinner I usually need a snack.  I do make my last meal of the day at least 3 hours before bed.  I do not have any kind of carbohydrate after dinner unless it’s the occasional bowl of air-popped popcorn with coconut butter.  Shhhhh 😉

My latest go to snack has been:

    -1 honeycrisp apple

    -handful of chopped almonds

    -sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice

-Microwave for 45 seconds and it’s warm and soft. So good!!!

If you want to start soon, it is super easy to do that. Just rock it out with your ipad, iphone or computer with Beachbody On Demand.  If you don’t have it, ask me how. It’s super easy!!  You can stream your workouts anywhere there is wifi or download 7 workouts to your library to do with no wifi connection.

Last week of Core De Force, but I’m going to continue on with month 2 because I love it that much!!!!

  • Trail Mix – Healthy and Tasty!

    Healthy Trail Mix!

My all time favorite snack mix!  This trail mix is where it’s at!

Maybe because it has dark chocolate in it, or maybe because I know the exact ingredients?? 😉

    Homemade Recipe for Trail Mix:

    • Organic Dark Chocolate
    • Organic Almonds
    • Organic Tart Cherries

Very difficult to make!  😉  I have made myself get in the habit of checking all ingredients before I throw something in my cart! Most dried fruit have preservatives (aka toxins) on them and the more toxins in our bodies, the harder it is to lose weight.  The great part that I love the most is that my kids love it.  I don’t add a ton of chocolate in there, but enough to make everyone happy.  We as a family eat a lot of almonds, they are a great healthy source of fat.  The pairing with dried tart cherries are something we have consistently, then when the dark chocolate is added, it becomes a really delicious treat!

  • Roasted Broccoli to Die For!!

    Roasted Broccoli ?

Omg! Why have I not tried this sooner? We all loved it! Did you know roasting veggies brings out the natural sugars? From a former candy addict, this is GOOD news ? !!!

I coated it in avocado oil and sprinkled it with garlic powder, salt, & onion powder. Then baked at 375 for about 30 minutes. The perfect side dish.  I added some purple cauliflower we found at Metropolitan Market, making it even more delicious.

    Have you tried this before?

  • The LOVE/HATE Relationship of Food Prep!

    •I Love Food Prep • I Hate Food Prep•

Okay maybe I hate food prep a little more than I want to admit, but it’s so worth having it done. I’m happy when I have fast healthy choices for me and the family.

    Here’s what I just did:

✅  Cut and washed the romaine and kale.

✅  Cooked two types of organic sausages.

✅  Prepped the taco meat and used one package ground turkey mixed with one package ground turkey breast.

✅  Baked paleo pumpkin muffins for the kids breakfast and before bed snack if they are begging for more food ? (recipe on my Instagram)

Here’s our menu for the week:

    Monday: Tacos

Tuesday: Roasted brussel sprouts and almond flour breaded chicken tenders with Fixate Cookbook, honey mustard dressing dip

    Wednesday: Kale salad and sausages

Thursday: Udi’s GF cheese pizza (my late work night) with green beans

Friday: Sweet potato fries and leftovers of their choice. We usually do popcorn for our movie night, too!

Now to enjoy my strawberry, goat cheese, walnut salad..???‪#‎phew‬‪#‎foodprep

  • Taco Salad, Keeping it Healthy!

    Taco Salad

I’m sure we can agree tacos might be our favorite meal! I used to hit up Taco Bell twice a week! In fact, while I was pregnant with my first child, Matt and I had the tough decision of where to eat on break from our birth training class ? Would it be McDonald’s or Taco Bell?  Taco Bell won, but it was a close call.

We haven’t had fast food since Jude was born 3 1/2 years ago. It was a personal decision to just say goodbye forever and never look back. We feel SO much better! Those gut bombs are not worth it!

So now, I make a taco salad and pretend it tastes like a double-decker, lol.

    Taco Salad Recipe

✔Swap out the tortilla for a bed of lettuce
✔Swap the sour cream for high protein Greek yogurt
✔Swap the cheese for lots of salsa and jalapeño
✔Swap the fatty beef for turkey (I like to mix one pack of ground turkey breast and one pack of regular turkey)
✔Swap the MSG filed taco seasonings for you own seasoning blend. Mine is from the 21 Day Fix

This is a slim tummy recipe as compared to a bloated sad tummy. Tag a friend you wanna eat taco salad with??!!!

  • Faith is Confidence! Keep on having Faith!

    FAITH

Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

One of my favorite verses in times of question and change. The exercise that helps me have bigger and stronger faith is simply remembering all of the times God has been near to me, redeemed and forgiven me, brought things in the perfect timing, showed me the right path to take and simply just blessed my socks off!

Once I count all those times and blessings, I can continue knowing He will always be my source of strength and help.  I encourage you to push through and not give up!  When we believe in each other, with the help of Christ, all things are possible!

    #Godisgood

  • Healthy Starbucks? Here’s how!!

    Healthy Starbucks Drink

I have officially broken up with my 1/2 pump white mocha americano with whip. To even think that I could have a healthy Starbucks drink….is crazy!  Who knew 2 inches of steamed coconut milk, 1 pack of honey and some cinnamon would be so dang tasty.  A whole new level in Starbucks nutrition! 😉

Upward and onward with making small but healthier changes all the time.  Are you kidding me?  Having a healthy Starbucks coffee is a dream come true!  And remember, having that whip everyday does add up.  It is compounding interest.  It doesn’t stop and it keeps going and going.  This is what has been so hard for me, with all my sugar

My prior overweight, binge eating, Taco Bell loving, candy addict self would hardly believe this is the new me.
