Glowing Skin is NOT wrinkles, pimples and age spots — we dislike them all!!!
I would know, I used to have horrible skin. Acne and I were close friends much to my dismay.. like the big, cystic and painful acne. I would want to call in sick to work acne. I took all measures growing up trying to ditch it. Two rounds of Accutane, every prescription gel, retinol, and cream possible. Most of it did nothing!!! Glowing skin seemed like a fantasy world I would never be a part of. Talk about a confidence killer!! Don’t even get me started on wrinkles… no bueno!
But over the years, as I’ve followed this path toward a healthier lifestyle, I’ve found solutions to help all my skin problems nearly disappear. I’m a makeup artist and esthetician by trade and still had a hard time troubleshooting my skin. Until I changed my nutrition. You see, our skin is the largest organ we have. If it is having problems, that’s a sign something’s not right on the inside. Now I’ve got beautiful, healthy and glowing skin I can be dang proud of and the best part is that I was able to get here naturally!
I want to share four tips that I’ve followed, that will help you not only start improving the health and look of your skin now, but also how to help undo any damage you’ve done, to return it to that glowing skin we all want.
Tip #1: Say Goodbye to Gluten
This is my number one, absolute must tip to having amazing, glowing skin! Here’s the deal with gluten, not all gluten is made the same. Over the years, it’s been modified to cause more damage then actually add healthy nutrition to our body. Especially in the U.S., today’s gluten is more of a stress inducer for your body. It causes inflammation in most of us and some more sensitive to it than others, but let’s just say I won’t touch the stuff with a ten-foot pole. All those added stressors on our system means wrinkles, acne, brown spots — and let’s be real… nobody wants that.
The stress in your body caused by gluten causes your skin to look dull and aged. Did you know that gluten is possibly linked to psoriasis, patchy skin and eczema? I’m just saying. I went gluten-free 4 years ago and not only does my tummy look less bloated, my skin has never looked better.
Before you start to think you can’t handle one more project to tackle like going gluten-free, let me tell you it’s WAY easier than you may think! Tip #2: Roots and Fruits
Root vegetables and fruits are pretty close to the Fountain of Youth. You should be eating these regularly! Eating root veggies and beautiful fruits, flood the bloodstream with nutrients that your body needs to make glowing skin! Your skin is clearer, the whites of your eyes are brighter, you sleep better — so why wouldn’t you eat them?
I know there are some people out there who say, “Should we really be eating fruits and root vegetables? Those have a lot of sugar in them.” Let’s get real for a second, it’s MUCH better than grabbing a granola bar full of preservatives and sugars. The sugars you’re supposed to avoid are things like high fructose corn syrup and the junk that’s in your processed foods. If you’re eating things like beets, sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, plums, pineapples, you’re doing your body GOOD! Your body and skin will thank you for it by looking beautiful and feeling radiant.
It’s also worth mentioning that your brain runs on pure glucose. If you’re cutting out root vegetables and fruits from your diet, your body is going to feel it.
Tip #3: Watch the Oils
All the nasty oils in everything like Canola Oil, Sunflower Oil, etc., these are all stressors and toxins to your body. Did you know that the stress and toxins produced by oils and gluten actually prevents collagen from developing? No wonder so many people are struggling with getting and maintaining healthy skin! I use organic cold-pressed olive oil in my salad dressings and avocado or coconut oil for heated cooking. You don’t want to over heat olive oil or it turns rancid.
Remember how I mentioned our skin will tell us when something is off? If you’re eating those sugars, processed foods, fast food and cooking with all that oil that turns toxic and rancid, your body will give you signals to let you know something’s not right. We must read labels and educate ourselves to be in our BEST health NOW.
Tip #4: Silky sleep
I’m a side sleeper and my cheeks stay planted against the pillow at night. Fortunately, I’m sleeping on a silk pillowcase. I’ve had it for almost 8 years and it looks brand new and I don’t have to worry about getting those nasty sleep wrinkles. Here’s the thing, if you’re sleeping on cotton sheets or anything other than silk, those are harder surfaces and can create wrinkles if your skin is smudged against the fabric all night. With silk sheets, your skin glides and doesn’t scrunch, so it helps to prevent those wrinkles that give you a forced, aged look. Bonus Tip: Stay hydrated!
Your skin is not going to look good if it’s not hydrated.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth, skip the soda and opt for things like Kombucha, La Croix or Zevia. I also love 1/2 lemon squeezed into an 8 oz glass of water first thing in the morning.
Above all else, remember your body is a miracle!! It knows how to work and it wants to work and function to be vibrant and healthy. You just need to help it get there and stay that way. Stop treating your body like a garbage can, putting junk into it and start treating it like the gift it is. Then you will have that glowing skin you’ve always wanted!!

Core De Force Meal Plan & Week 4 Update
Core De Force Week 4 Meal Plan is going down today. Failing to plan is like planning to fail. When I first heard that phrase I thought it was crazy. Like seriously…. who plans out there food every week? I don’t have time for that and seriously, who actually eats what they plan out? That was my thinking 4 years ago, and I quickly realized after failing over and over at my nutrition that there was truth to meal planning and that I needed to embrace it. Do I always eat exactly what is on the plan?? NOT AT ALL! But at least I have a plan, I have food in the house and I am empowered and set up for success. So it’s Sunday and I call this my planning day. I am sitting here with the Core De Force nutrition guide, my blank meal plan template I created on a spreadsheet, and my grocery list so that I can get my game plan together for the 4th week of Core De Force.
After 4 years of clean eating and exercising I have found my perfect combination. I have done everything from the The South Beach Diet, The Fat Flush Diet, Eat Right For your Blood Type Diet, 21 Day Fix, Fix Extreme, 3 day refresh (<<btw, you would love this one) and following a Gluten-free diet. I have found that my body personally responds to food very differently. I get bloated with dairy and grains, I get mentally foggy and almost an instant headache with refined sugars. If I eat paleo, stay away from dairy, gluten, and sugars that are artificial I feel my best. No bloating, no mood swings, no headaches and improved muscle definition and tone.
So here is my “ideal” lifestyle ( even though I love raw cheddar, brie and Elleno’s Greek Yogurt)
- Dairy free
- Gluten Free
- No artificial sugars at all
- No legumes
- Paleo lifestyle
I can share with you the difference is for sure in the results too:
I just don’t have those crazy crashes in my energy level like I did before. I am not sluggish, I don’t have headaches unless my alignment is out of place, my skin is clearer and I’m just healthier and happier all around.The picture on the far left is from June when I was able to start working out again post surgeries. You can search my blog for details on that fiasco. The one on the far right is after completing 21 Day Fix Extreme, 8 weeks of Hammer and Chisel and 3 weeks of Core De Force. I can really see my definition showing up. I know I’m already fit but I feel healthy, powerful and STRONG which is really what I’m after. Plus I really love that Core De Force is so focused on your core and that you do not need any weights at all. It is just the perfect Hashtag Girlboss workout. I wear my weighted gloves and I can do it in my own home. No one cares how my hair looks. Half the time I am grunting and punching and looking completely ridiculous.

So let’s also talk nutrition. I am following the Core De Force meal plan. I also really do modify and I don’t always get in the yellows. I eat maybe 1 per day and I eat more good fats because I follow the Paleo lifestyle. That is what my body responds to the best. Here is my week 4 meal plan:
I have snacks typically in the afternoon between lunch and dinner and then after dinner I usually need a snack. I do make my last meal of the day at least 3 hours before bed. I do not have any kind of carbohydrate after dinner unless it’s the occasional bowl of air-popped popcorn with coconut butter. Shhhhh 😉
My latest go to snack has been:
-1 honeycrisp apple
-handful of chopped almonds
-sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice
-Microwave for 45 seconds and it’s warm and soft. So good!!!

Thinking back to earlier years when I lived on my own, I would stay up late watching Three’s Company and drinking milk through red vines (true story), then I switched to snacking on sour patch kids before bed while I fell asleep to the t.v.
These were habits I had for most of my early 20’s😐. I still can’t believe what I put in my body right before it went into repair mode. 😰💤
It wasn’t just a lack of knowledge or ignorance, it was a way to cope. To leave reality and de-stress. Other times I’ve used wine.
I’m so glad tonight as I think back to those times, that I can find new ways to cope. I can’t imagine what my poor body was thinking and all the cells I damaged 😱
New habits are being formed and I will try to reverse some of the damage I’ve done to my body.
If you struggle, know that if you want it bad enough, you can change those nasty old habits into habits that will improve every area of your life. I believe that for you!
👉🏻 Just a couple new habits I’ve made. Flossing every night (I’m in my 3rd week 🙌🏼). Peptide lip therapy every night (PCA is my favorite). Mainly because lip injections rarely turn out pretty so I need to prevent the breakdown 👄☺️jk! Diffusing oils and reading.
My new little oil diffuser for our bedroom was on sale at Super Supplements today so I have lavender in it for beddie-bye. It has a burst mode feature that lets it turn on every 10 minutes. We have one for the living room/kitchen, too! I have to say that oils are better than candles to me.

The feeling of having energy ?and being strong??. Two of the best feelings ever! Well, and being able to walk into your closet and wear everything you own with the greatest of confidence. I didn’t always used to have them. I was lost in what to eat and what workouts worked best for me. Now I have a fire in my soul to help other women find what works for them. I want you to have everything you’ve wanted with your health and fitness goals. There’s no reason not to wait. Start taking care of yourself sooner than later. ?
I love the quote, “To have something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.” This relates so perfect to fitness and nutrition.

Clean Eating = Transformation Tuesday
Clean eating is all about the discipline of my mind. It is a battle. I fight me every day, all the time. Today’s battle? Kombucha or Wine? I’m going with Kombucha ? I win!!!! I started a clean eating group this last Monday with an amazing group of women. We decided that we would make clean eating a discipline. That we would make it a focus to not allow ourselves to make choices we regret. We would bring in a collective of clean recipes, ideas and accountability.
Last week in our 5 day clean eating group, I had 19 of the women share how much weight they had loss. There was a total of 108.5 lbs lost as a group!!!!!! Are you kidding me?!! That was 5.7 lbs per person. I don’t have enough exclamation points for this post! ? That is why clean eating and watching your sugars and alcohols pays off. We have monthly clean eating groups. They are five days, they are organized and allow you to really get a whole bunch of ideas to learn more about what it is to eat clean. This January we have 201 women participating! It is so amazing! Sharing so much information is just awesome and it allows everyone to get a feel what works for a collaborative of people.

Healthy Starbucks Drink
I have officially broken up with my 1/2 pump white mocha americano with whip. To even think that I could have a healthy Starbucks drink….is crazy! Who knew 2 inches of steamed coconut milk, 1 pack of honey and some cinnamon would be so dang tasty. A whole new level in Starbucks nutrition! 😉
Upward and onward with making small but healthier changes all the time. Are you kidding me? Having a healthy Starbucks coffee is a dream come true! And remember, having that whip everyday does add up. It is compounding interest. It doesn’t stop and it keeps going and going. This is what has been so hard for me, with all my sugar
My prior overweight, binge eating, Taco Bell loving, candy addict self would hardly believe this is the new me.

Sugar Detox Day 1
Day one of my sugar detox, green tea and honey instead of coffee, dates as my candy, and Shakeology as my treat. My willpower is in full effect this week. This is not even a bit easy for me. I love eating junk. A lot of us do! I know I’m not the only one. The thing is, we are what we eat…. and that sucks. I used to be able to eat anything and the scale would stay the same, my pants would fit just fine. Now, I feel like I have to stay on point to keep from gaining those extra pounds or barely fitting in my jeans!
Cheese, tortilla chips, peanut m&m’s and wine is what gave me this bloat ?
Dreams of skinny jeans and sweaters is what’s gonna take this bloat away.
Sometimes you just have to say “NO” for a bit. That’s what I tell myself as I struggle to stay strong. I’m also excited to sleep better and wake up with more energy. Wish me and the girls in my group luck with our sugar detox. We are going to keep accountable and really push through. Home Remedies for Acne
I am always looking for new home remedies for acne. I have dealt with acne my entire life. It is one of the most annoying things that is a continual battle. To those of you that deal with it as well, you can relate.
This magical combo had been helping me this past week. Melaleuca essential oil and organic extra virgin coconut oil did the trick! I had a funny sore on the edge of my nose that would not heal. I did a little “googling” and after two applications and some vitamin C pill-popping, it’s almost gone! I have found that Google has almost all the answers to everything in the entire world! Then if I need to see it in video form, I go to You Tube!
As a family we try to steer clear of antibiotics as much as possible. We’ve been known to swallow garlic cloves and goofy stuff like that. I swear it works though! 😉 My husband will literally take three cloves, peel them, cut them up into small pill sized cubes, throw them in his mouth and then swallow them with a glass of water!! Our at home gym smells a little garlicky from time to time!!
Now that this bottle of coconut oil is dedicated to skin treatments, I think I will start using it as a body moisturizer (especially on my feet) after the shower. I’ve heard it’s anti fungal, too! Again, my husband only uses coconut oil as lotion for his skin. He doesn’t do well with most lotions, so this is an amazing alternative, that is totally good for you!
Man, now to find more ways to use it!!

One of the Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Call me crazy but I love this trick!
If you are feeling bloated or have a little tummy issue…take 1-2 Tbs of ACV and add to a glass of water. It doesn’t taste as yuckie as you might think! I was really surprised at how much I liked it actually.
My doctor recommended doing this before a meal to help with digestion, too. This is just one of the benefits of apple cider vinegar.
I had this last night shortly before bed and you could also do it in the morning. Or maybe if salads or too many greens upset your stomach? Or you go out to dinner and come home feeling not so hot from what you ordered? Great times to use this trick.
Make sure to purchase this brand. It’s the best and the others won’t give you the full benefits because they are stripped of all the good stuff. Feel free to search online for reviews. This is my go to and has really helped me so much in being more healthy.
It’s these types of things that you begin doing as you stay consistent in trying to get more healthy and fit. It isn’t an overnight change, it is day in and day out, changing the way I live. I am sure my body has so many issues from what I used to eat…and for a very long time. That culmination of fast food, candy, and just junk in general really has taken a toll on my. So make sure to remember to have some patience with yourself and know that it will all work out.
