  • Moderation!! It is so Important.

    Moderation

Moderation is such an important part of our lives. But I also know that hitting it hard for a short period of time is what pushes you out of where you are, to where you want to be. I did that after baby number two for about 4-5 months.  I used the workout Turbofire with Chalene Johnson, who was perfect!

Adding a salad for lunch, daily, is my secret sauce, what keeps me in moderation. But after I hit my goal, I took a step back and told myself I would never quit. I would stick to a lifestyle change and not lose my progress or fall back to my old yo-yo patterns. I continually push play on these amazing workouts for women, and yes, that even means lifting weights!  I love Body Beast!  It has changed my body for the good, did not get me bulky….but definitely helped my curves!  😉

Speaking of Body Beast, I was super scared of lifting heavy weights.  My husband had been bugging me for a year, before I finally decided to give it a try.  It works.  It literally is amazing.  It is my go to in staying consistent.  I use it as a fill in.  It is just a great workout for any woman.  I know why I was so scared.  I thought I would bulk up, that I would get super big.  Weight lifting for women is so very important.  I recommend it in moderation.  You don’t need to go crazy, but it should be added to your regimen of monthly workouts.

Going extreme all the time works for about 2% of people and really makes you run the risk of injury.  Let’s be women of moderation.  Let’s be women who never quit and who keep the healthy lifestyle going always! Push through, stay consistent, don’t give up!  Who’s with me?!

  • Transformation! Jennifer gets fit!

    transformation tuesday

Jennifer and I have been connected for over a year now and her transformation is so inspiring. She recently shared this picture in our group and I asked her if she would be willing to share her story. With tears in my eyes as I read this, I wish Jennifer and I lived closer so I could give her a big hug! She checked in the group almost daily and was dedicated beyond most. She is an example of what a healthy, strong woman is and does. Here is her story:

When you are ok with you who are on the inside, everything on the outside falls into place. It took me 35 years to figure this out, and this lesson has changed my life.

I spent a lot of time trying to be what I thought everyone else wanted, pushing aside how I felt and what I wanted for my own life. I always felt like I was never quite good enough…not even for myself.

You can only neglect yourself for so long before you start to forget who you are. You not only lose your confidence, but you also start to lose your health.

A few years ago, my world came crashing down. My dad died. I was in a car accident, and I was diagnosed with endometriosis. What was supposed to be routine surgery put me out of work for three months. Looking back, this should have been a wakeup call to slow down, but I had responsibilities and people I couldn’t let down. I started working harder than ever, and my health got worse.

At 220+ pounds, I was feeling pretty miserable, not just physically. I avoided most social situations, and I was often afraid to speak up. I rarely did anything fun. Looking back, I see I was hiding from my own life.

The only time I felt well was when I was moving. I started doing tae-bo and lost 30 pounds. I wasn’t consistent and didn’t know anything about nutrition. I gained ten back. This woke something up inside of me. It made me angry. I was determined not to go back to the way I was, and by December 2012 I was serious.

In 2013, I started to educate myself on what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. I read every article I could get my hands on. I learned about myfitnesspal, and I started logging all my foods, something I still do today.

I also discovered Beachbody. I wanted to challenge myself, and Insanity was the hardest program out there. I paused the videos constantly, but I finished the program. Getting that t-shirt was the best feeling ever.  They are the perfect workouts for women!!

I’ve been hooked on Beachbody ever since. Besides Insanity, I’ve completed Les Mills Combat, Les Mills Pump, a Shakeology challenge, and P90X3. I’m one week away from finishing T25, and I have 2.5 weeks left of Body Beast. I also run several days a week and recently did my first 10K.

My health is now the one area where I put myself first. Workouts are non-negotiable. 6 days a week. My diet is pretty strict as well. All whole foods all the time, very little processed. I put a lot of planning into my meals, packing work lunches the night before. I love experimenting with recipes from sites like skinnytaste.com, and it turns out I’m a pretty good cook!

I’m down to 138 pounds now, and I’ve kept it off for a few years. I’m still working on building muscle and toning up. It’s hard to see changes now, but I feel stronger every day. The best part is not looking better but feeling healthy and strong.

Bettering my health has made me feel capable like no other accomplishment ever has. Because I feel capable I am more outgoing. Life now has so many possibilities. And the last few years have brought so many wonderful experiences. Taking responsibility for my health has helped me learn I have to do the same with the rest of my life too. I’m responsible for making sure my life is full and happy, and along the way my example is helping others too.

Can we please give her a shout out and feel free to share this if you can relate.

Well done my friend, well done!

  • Gluten-Free Snacks!! So Much Yum!

    Gluten-Free Snacks

It’s Friday and these are awesome gluten-free snacks!!! Traded my homemade chocolate chip cookies or a big greasy burger for dark chocolate instead. I still get treats but they don’t make me feel sick and bloated ?? Being ‪#‎glutenfree‬ isn’t so bad after all! Gluten-free snacks for the win in every way possible!

    About My Gluten Intolerance

By the way, I am severely gluten intolerant.  I will break out in eczema all over my hands.  I will also have a distended belly that makes me look like I’m pregnant.  It isn’t a joke and isn’t to be looked at lightly.  Everything we do to our bodies compounds over time.  There were times where I would feel horrible for multiple days in a row and had no idea why.

I literally knew none of what I know, and that was just four years ago.  Gluten-free?  Didn’t have a clue.  When my husband went through his transformation, my mind started going crazy.  He started really finding sensitivities in his own body and then pushed me to find out what was wrong with mine.  The saddest part….I know my body does way better without red wine.  So it’s not just gluten that hurts me.  The only reason I found this out, was because I had slowly removed junk out of my diet and finally found different areas that might be cause for concern.  I eliminated those areas and then I am seeing more and more change….for the good!

The key is to test things.  On a lighter note….this little treats don’t give me any side effects!!  Yeah!!
What “happy meal” are you going to splurge on this weekend?

Just a little splurging is fine but don’t go too crazy or you’ll be bummed come Monday’s workout.

  • How to Survive Celebrations the Healthy Way!!

    Celebrations the Healthy Way

Grad parties, BBQ’s, Father’s Day, they take work to enjoy these celebrations the healthy way. Summer is in full effect and the hard part for me is, the busyness can hurt our progress if we let it. I mean seriously, when you get somewhere and all your food choices are empty carbs, chips and maybe some greasy meat. What do you do?

Well, as I’m learning in business and in my health..planning is key. Never leave much to chance when it comes to your nutrition or fitness or you’ll look back and wonder how 2 months has passed and you’ve gained more than you thought possible in a short time.

    Here are my tricks:

    • Drink plenty of water early in the day. I shoot for 3 liters a day and one of those before 10 am.
    • Always have food before you go somewhere. That way you’re not starving and eating whatever you feel like.
    • For every drink or cup of coffee, drink two glasses of water to compensate.
    • Get your quick greens in for the day by blending a couple handfuls in your daily smoothie. You can’t even taste it.
    • Have a little bit of something if you just can’t resist and really enjoy it. Life is too short to be perfect all the time;)

Last but the most important to me personally!!! Enjoy the company more than you enjoy the food. By this I mean, by tweaking your brain to focus on the conversation and not the food you’ll quickly realize it’s not that special anyway.

Hope this helps and have a fun weekend, enjoy your celebrations the healthy way!
